A Poem by Rita L. Sev

A folded flag and empty boots

attest he’s paid the price,

his name forever etched in stone

recalls his sacrifice

and now our greatest tribute

to pay homage to his fall;

ensuring that there’s justice

and liberty for all

Author's Note

A barbecue and time with family is great, but providing freedom for all every day is the gift of a soldier. The least we can do is to maintain it, and pass it on.

The rhyme really set the tone for this one. Very nice.

The gift of a soldier indeed. A selfless act by so many to protect us and may we never forget.

Thank you, Michael!
The price paid is high, some would argue too high. But without such sacrifice, justice and liberty would be consigned to the history books forevermore and this world would would be an even more dangerous place than it is now.

This poem is a reminder that we must never forget. Beccy.

Thank you, Beccy!
Words to the (so-called) wise here Rita.
Some groups and individuals would, by their actions, taint the sacrifice of the brave.
So reflective and poignant at this time.
Well penned dear poet.

Timely and appropriate. My uncle was in Nam and he is really big on this holiday. Thanks for the beautiful little poem to remind us of the sacrifices made for our freedom. This sets the spirit for the holiday weekend.
