Memorial

A folded flag and empty boots

attest he’s paid the price,

his name forever etched in stone

recalls his sacrifice

 

and now our greatest tribute

to pay homage to his fall;

ensuring that there’s justice

and liberty for all

 

Author's Note

A barbecue and time with family is great, but providing freedom for all every day is the gift of a soldier. The least we can do is to maintain it, and pass it on.

Timely and appropriate. My uncle was in Nam and he is really big on this holiday. Thanks for the beautiful little poem to remind us of the sacrifices made for our freedom. This sets the spirit for the holiday weekend.

Thanks, Damien; wrote this one last year, but it still works. :) I think especially of my father-in-law on Memorial Day. He served in Korea, and is buried at Arlington.
