80s Band

80s Band

A Poem by Rita L. Sev

In the old music hall

close your eyes

let that East Coast sound

take you back to yesterdecade…

peek at the crowd

with bygone-shaded eyes

before marriage and mortgages

before babies and biopsies

before life painted their dreams

with wide brushstrokes of reality

and when the homeboys play

their almost-hit,

still giving everything they’ve got…

be sure to sing along

Every band starts out a garage band.. nothing like that hungry hard edge sound. Cause when they get big they polish their sound and it is never the same. Fun little poem

There is a deliciously melancholy melody playing through your lines in this one, Rita. ......before marriages, mortgage, and biopsies....you know it. Music brings us back to a better time and we almost believe we are still that young when we hear it. Oh, yes, sing along....and sing loudly! Loved this. Lydi**

Thank you so much, Lydi - you got exactly what I was going for with this one.
We of "a certain age" can appreciate this. Back when life was far simpler but we too rushed to know it. I particularly liked that it was an "almost hit", which makes the nostalgia all the sweeter.

Yup. I think I am still stuck in the 80's. This one made me smile - and ache a little too. Well done.

You being an 80s songstress yourself, I knew you'd appreciate this, Tammy! Thanks!
I'm as far from the East Coast as it's possible to get im America. BUt I can feel the nostalgia...

There is a definite "East Coast" sound... but the nostalgia is the key... Thanks, Marie.
I was a durannie, myself. Who am I kidding. I am a durance. Brings it back, Rita; brings it back.
