The Rebel

The Rebel

A Poem by Rita L. Sev

"

That Reginald’s a rebel,

Better keep away from him;

He writes pen names in pencil

And his Husky dog is slim

He makes his pot roast in a pan,

Spends nights in a day bed,

Drinks coffee with his tea biscuits,

Looks back to get ahead

He gives rain checks on sunny days,

Eats French fries in the States,

Shares lady fingers with a dude,

Quite calm, plays crazy eights

So stay away from Reginald,

That awful influence,

Or you may think his way of life

Seems much like common sense

An offbeat lifestyle....yet somehow I can relate to it. I think all of us...poets I mean....have our own alternative way of dealing with things. Not sure it is really rebellious, but certainly resistant to the "norms" people accept all too readily. Great character study, Rita. Lydi**

Smilessssssssssssss I bet:)
A delightful jumble of oxymorons here, making every line prominent and relative. It almost sounds a bit like me :P Sometimes it is through such ironic quirks that we learn the most about people. Clever and very witty...well done my friend :)

:) Thanks, Steve! These quirks of Reginald's are about as rebellious as I get, too...
Great poem. I like how the reader gets a sense of the speaker's character through the descriptions of Reginald. It's like we get to know the speaker by hearing her complain about someone else. I can't decide which lines are my favorite, each one is just as powerful as the last. Also, the final stanza works perfectly to bring the rest of the list together to make meaning of all the great images you've created.
