Innkeeper

Innkeeper

A Poem by Rita L. Sev
"

...

"

Bethlehem had filled up fast

before that night’s full moon;

how was I to know the world

would change so much, so soon?

By the time the weary pair arrived

the sky was dark and clear;

my inn had no more vacancies,

her time was drawing near

I led them to a clean, warm cave,

the best that I could do

and when I heard the Baby’s cry

a star came into view

Shepherds came, and wise men too,

then angels heard on high;

a royal welcome for the King

who in a manger lie

I spoke the words regrettably,

“There’s no room in the inn”

but only in humility

salvation could begin.

Thank you for reading, and for your kind words!
Listening to the local mid-day farm report prior to Christmas I heard the commentators point out that perhaps the stable/barn would have been a very warm place to stay due to the heat generated by the livestock. Would the value of the animals ensured a treatment and care equal to the inn's patrons? Perhaps the Holy Family got lucky. Or maybe Someone was watching out for them... Merry Christmas Rita!

beautifully done Rita! very inspire as you capture such a glorious and hmble moment ... no other before nor since has laid hold of the same claims as Christ .. there is so much to marvel in concerning His birth and his very earthly family ... which He expanded to include all ...so glad you shared this one Rita! Merry Christmas ;)

Thank you, Sam!
I missed reviewing this last year my friend, and I am so glad to see it in our list as I've never thought of the miracle of the birth of our Savior as that seen by the keeper of the inn! Thought provoking and so very appropriate!
