Leaf Song

Leaf Song

A Poem by Rita L. Sev
"

...

"

A perfect, gorgeous golden leaf

fell from tree to ground

Singing as she floated,

though she didn’t make a sound

Her lyrics traveled on the wind

they linger in my mind

She sang the joy of having known

the Life she’d been assigned

Her sweet, divine existence

echoes ours, however brief

So now before my Fall I’ll sing

the anthem of the leaf

This was a reverently humanistic poem Rita. It sings to the soul because it is a truth many don't embrace or appreciate until it's too late. I thank you for posting something so lovely. It will go in my favorites.

Thank you so much, Eddie...
Exceptionally fantastic! I can see the leaf fluttering about the autumn air, hearing its joyous, delicate song, and finally seeing it touch the gentle earth. Amazing!

Thank you so much, Dale. Yes, this season is bursting with its own artistry...
This is lovely. It reminds me of the poems I have in a collection called 'Silver Pennies'.

The rhythm and cadence works. Flows gracefully like a blazing maple caught in the wind.

Thank you, Lisa; I'm glad you enjoyed this.
We may live longer, but our exits are nearly so beautiful as the leaf--turning gold and carried off by the wind. Great rhyming and cadence. Masterful in its phrasing, packing the complete picture in one splendid compact poem.

Thank you, Cassie - glad you enjoyed...
I still remember the short story "The Last Leaf" wherein an ill person gets his strength from the last leaf he sees from outside the window...without the knowledge that the last leaf has already fallen and an old man who's a painter only painted on the wall that picture of the last leaf. The next day, the painter died... A leaf always bring a story. The leaf here created music, as well as your poem. Remarkable rhyme and rhythm.

Everything about this poem is beautiful - Perfect even! They rhyme, rhythm, flow, imagery - I love it.
I have a 'soft spot' for any autumn themed poem but it's always such a pleasure to read one like this that stands out from the rest.
Really enjoyed this!
