Pumpkin

Pumpkin

A Poem by Rita L. Sev
"

.

"

A pumpkin in his pumpkin patch

all through October’s chill,

adventure burned his very core;

he hankered for a thrill

The other pumpkins laughed at him

“You’re quite out of your gourd!”

But he just knew he had to leave

that field made him so bored

One day there came a raucous pair

they picked him from the bunch;

his life would be much different now,

he surely had a hunch

But he had not quite understood

an autumn pumpkin’s role

and soon his happy dreams were squashed,

out of our friend’s control

Now he wears an eerie grin,

his hollow eyes inert

at least his life was not in vain ~

who’s ready for dessert?   ;)

Wow how'd you always come up with something really this good . With a stump card on the last line . A pumpkin pie perhaps... Thanks for the read request . I like your autumn and Halloween motif

This is a cute poem, but I’ve always seen pumpkins as being girls: I was inspired to use some of your words to write the following gift quatrain for you:

Mrs. Pumpkin

Hoping for much more
through October’s chill,
deep within her core
she longed for a thrill.

Hmmm... I guess I associate the jack-o-lantern with being male, so the pumpkin is male... :) Thanks,.. read more

I know that they are rare, but some jack-o-lanterns are girly jacqueline-o-lanterns.
