Guardian

A Poem by Rita L. Sev
"

Look...

"

Morning clouds hover

weighing on my mind

and then a sunray spills

upon my shade

Protesting the glare,

I move on through the day

feeling my heart’s burdening

pervade

Walking darkened paths

the ends become obscure

sudden breaths of wind

caress my cheek

I brush away the kisses,

head bent against the gloom

intent on falling deeper

in the bleak

Then in the blackest moment,

the grimmest point of night

a winking in the heavens

grabs my eye

I gaze at this bright vision,

the tides within me turn

I hear redemption beckon

from on high

The steadfast loving hand

that reaches for the soul

wears no feathered wings

for ready flight

Our angels are more subtle,

only seen through eyes of faith ~

they’re in the sun ~ the wind ~

and in the starlight.

"Our angels are more subtle,

Exactly! When faith is there you can almost sense them...

I used to think butterflied flitting around me were guardian angels. I still do, sort of

Whoa, this is an awesome piece! Loved the opening lines, then it got deep on me and reminded me of nearly half the people (mostly young) I meet here. But your ending made it beautiful and unexpected,

Thanks for the share! Reeeally enjoyed it.

Volumes and it's all digital.
This beautifully structured rhyme evokes guiding intuitions that lie beyond the limits of my empirical objectivity. I'd be the last person on Earth to say that I wasn't also guided by these mysterious intuitions. Perhaps it's our mystical intuitions that make us truly human. Reality is greater than the sum of its components, an angelic addendum, a magical touch.

Thank you so much, Julie!
Very insightful! Especially the last line. The structure of the poem is effective as it aids readers to follow the rhythm and the flow of thought. This is lovely! :)
