Dr. Shock was a magician and entertainer who hosted a horror movie show in Philadelphia from 1969 to 1979. Saturday afternoon was not complete without him.

This ties into the vaccum poem and that lost time again. It slips away, we lose those days ... and when we look back upon them, our todays slip from our grasp. RLS ... you are making me feel oddly ancient tonight.

So true Rita - there are lots of good old days - Your recollection was not unlike a rummage around in my own toybox - but why oh why did you omit GI Joe (Action Man here in Ireland)? ;)
I loved this step back in time - nostalgia is one of my pastimes... (hey that came outta nowhere...lol)

Ha! Yes, my brother had GI Joe, too - this list could have been a lot longer... Thanks, Anto!
Well done. I really liked that after the first stanza of pure nostalgia comes the second stanza of forward looking hope.
And as always well constructed.

We had a host who climbed out of his coffin every Friday evening and showed terrible horror movies. I believe it was called "Shock Theatre". He was versatile and also did a children's show weekday afternoons.

We had Shock Theater too, though I don't remember who the host was. They were some bad films...
WOW! A trip down memory lane; talk about nostalgic! Supreme crafting of words in rhythmic fashion! Applause, applause! Now take your bow, young lady....... Splendiferous!

Thanks for the clarification! And young you are, no doubt!
Dr. Shock...wow, do you know how long it has been since I heard that name? Right up there with Larry Ferrari and Jerry Blavet - the geeter with the heater.
Very cool Rita, each of these things you mention bring back wonderful memories...except the Necco wafers, never really cared for them. But here's some exciting news for me...we now have Tastykakes in San Antonio. Butterscotch Krimpets...found them on the grocery store shelf the other day. Mmmm

The Necco Wafers were big in Catholic circles - we'd play "communion" with them... Ah, Tastykakes... I don't eat them anymore, but I used to love the Krimpets... and peanut butter Kandy Kakes... :)
