Alphabet Soup

Alphabet Soup

A Poem by Rita L. Sev
"

An Abecedarian Poem

"

Apricots and acorn squash,

Bagels, bacon, beans,

Cashews, carrots, cranberries,

Dandelion greens

Every day’s a smorgasbord,

Food pyramid to climb

Granola, grapefruit, gravy,

Herbs like sage and thyme

I have to mention ice cream,

Jelly beans and currant jam,

Kettle corn and kiwi fruit,

Lasagna, lentils, lamb

Macaroni’s versatile,

Noodles of all kind

Oatmeal, omelets, oranges,

Pineapple (sans the rind)

Quiche and quinoa cereal,

Rhubarb, raisins, rice,

Sweet potatoes, sauerkraut

Tomatoes by the slice,

Ugli fruit, unleavened bread,

Veg soup, vanilla cake

Watermelon, waffles,

Xanthan gum (it’s used to bake)

Yenning for these foods does give

Zealous chefs the will to live

I very much enjoy writing poems of this type, where a long list of some kind must be arranged as rhymed and metered verse. You do it extremely well here. Very well-written and entertaining to read. (As I was reading, I was wondering what you'd do when you got to "X"--Clever.) Richard

Thanks, Blue - it was fun to write, though X was a challenge... :)
Poetic license allows us to write about things we don't eat, do or even know much about. It's one of the best parts of writing and imagination. Thank you.

You met the creativity challenge! And now... you've made me hungry :)
So fun and upbeat, I enjoyed the fast flow of words and yummy titilation of ingredients.
