Freshwater Tears

Summer, 2013

Ancient waters flow

in sepia streams

beckoning under a deceptive sky

ravenous after having her fill

she seizes

swallows whole

the drifting deadwood 

adding freshwater tears 

to the flood

Searchers are looking for a teenage boy in Pennypack creek; this is the fourth such incident this summer.

Thank you, Angi. So much rain this summer has swelled the creek, and every time, kids go and do daring things to beat the heat that sets in after the rain. They have not found him yet...

Thank you, Sheila. It has been an unusually rainy summer, so the creek has been swollen a lot. Her waters are inviting after the rain, when the sun comes out, and teenage boys are, in their minds, invincible...
