Crowning Glory

Crowning Glory

A Poem by Rita L. Sev
"

...

"

I’ve been a blonde,

I’ve dyed it red,

I’ve crimped and permed and curled

Now straight brown

with silver streaks

is the crown I show the world

If a woman’s hair is her glory,

then as far as I’m concerned

ignore my hair

and look at where

real glory has been earned

Just thinking about all the crazy thing I have done to my hair over the years... it's a wonder it didn't all fall out!

Haha. Definitely
I love the title Rita. It captured my attention right away. A good write that's clever and a fun read. I enjoy the humor. Playful. Good imagery, flow and tone. Line to line transition and breaks are done well. Nice rhythm and enjambment. Good rhyme and unique rhyme scheme. Perfect masculine end line rhyme that is executed very well in this piece (curled, world; hair, where; concerned, earned). Nice use of envelope rhyme in your final stanza. Good depth of feeling and an amusing piece. I can relate. Although I've never colored my hair, I had permed and gheri curled my hair until 30 years ago when I cut my hair short and went natural. I've been happier ever since. Good word choice. Well penned and a most enjoyable read. Write on!

Well done Rita. A homage to those of a certain age who have earned the grey. Great rhyme and meter as always. You have an ear and always use it well.

Ha! ;) Thank you, Rose!
The title is perfect! My silver streaks agree with you. Lol!
I love the flow in the first two stanzas, I'm wondering if you changed the order slightly in the last part to:
If a woman's glory
is her hair
then as far as I'm concerned

ignore my hair
and look at where
real glory has been earned

for me, it would feel more consistent with the beginning of the poem - just a thought, not sure if it slightly changes your meaning... :)
