Crowning Glory

Crowning Glory

A Poem by Rita L. Sev
"

...

"

I’ve been a blonde,

I’ve dyed it red,

I’ve crimped and permed and curled

Now straight brown

with silver streaks

is the crown I show the world

If a woman’s hair is her glory,

then as far as I’m concerned

ignore my hair

and look at where

real glory has been earned

Just thinking about all the crazy thing I have done to my hair over the years... it's a wonder it didn't all fall out!

LOL, how well I understand. I, too, have been a blonde, a redhead, and a brunette...and there have been a couple of disasters...like the time me and a buddy from college decided to play "beauty shoppe" on each other...I shudder just remembering that episode!
What you see in my picture there is my own color...pure silver...and with my brood, I have earned every strand! I am actually proud of my silver-white mane!!
Thanks for the giggle!!

Thanks, Angel! My worst episode involved red dye and a crimping iron... *shudder*. :)
Haha! I remember also the crazy things I've done to my hair. For the first 6 months, I've got a hair relaxation. Then I got it permed/curled for my graduation ceremony. And then rebond to last for another 6 months.
That's how my hair look every 6 months...straight...curled....straight....curled. Haha! What I've got now is a thin crowning glory.

But going back to the poem, I really like the ending stanza. It's not really the hair we can see the glory of a woman...
Nice wordplay. Excellent, Rita!

Wish I could just do that! Thanks, Mark.
We do get obsessed with our looks when what is inside is what counts.
Funny how no one is happy with their appearance... blondes want to be brunettes, brunettes want to be red heads... straight haired people want curly hair and vice versa. We are a fickle species.

When I was younger I use to perm and color mine.
A delightful rhyme. The outer beauty means so little if the inside of a person is ugly. I liked this a lot, Rita. Lydi**

My pleasure Rita :)
I used to do a lot of things to my hair...and then for a time I wore different wigs...

Now I keep it short and natural.

We all go through that "hair" phase... it's a lot easier now!
In my youth and through about 40 years, I was blessed with fine-textured, naturally blond and thick head of hair, and I confess to being about vain about it. Lupus and time have made that only a memory. You are right; we have earned the right to ask for respect: we earned these gray hairs!

I enjoyed this poem's, rhythm, rhyme and theme:

"A beard does not a man make", ...
nor a crown a king.

Hair does not a woman make, ...
nor a crown a queen.
