The Swan Within

The Swan Within

A Poem by Rita L. Sev
"

...

"

Was the swan within

afraid to show her true self

because she feared that

she would still be in their eyes

the ugliest of ducklings?

It's hard to see yourself as beautiful when all others around you do not... Thank you, Stella.

Weird when that happens, isn't it...you're welcome Rita, love your work.
I can answer yes to that question. Resoundingly so. You have a way of making one see their guts when you choose to, missy. Hrmph. Angi~

Thank you so much, Angi. I really think this was the real moral of that story all along...
Very nicely done and very deep in the thoughts it creates. Some are exactly like this I am afraid. Your poem is beautiful Rita. Kind of sad, but beautiful

Thank you, Jack.
This will be the second time this evening that I am passing on this delightful little proverb that someone once gave to me:
You wouldn't worry so much about what other people think of you, if you knew how seldom they did...

You know, realizing that most folks are really too busy worrying about what you think of them to give much thought to forming an opinion about you...well, it helps to put things in perspective, you know? And in the end, there is only One opinion that actually counts, anyhow...

I always loved "The Ugly Duckling". I am convinced that there is a swan hiding in each one of us...
Does anyone else hear Danny Kaye, singing "and he went with a quack and a waddle and a quack..."??????

Now that is a thought provoking question, Rita! I think we often care too much what others think....self esteem is all important. Good metaphor in this. Lydi**

Thank you very much, Lydi.
To paraphrase Robert Burns - Had we the grace to see ourselves as others see us.

Although I do not know if that would be a grace or a curse.
A thoughtful piece Rita.

A good point, Steve - I suppose it would depend on whose eyes we were using... Thank you so much.
