Siren Call

Siren Call

A Poem by Rita L. Sev
"

I hear Autumn calling...

"

No more baking in the Summer sun

Secretly, I crave the taste of Fall ~

foliage flavored turmeric and saffron,

the rustled-stirring sounds a siren call

Like flames they crackle brightly in the trees

Autumnal glow against cerulean skies

My soul is warmed against the season’s chill

As Mother Nature dons her bright disguise

It's still high summer here in Alabama, although it's been a rather wet summer.
I'm in no hurry at all for cold weather. I prefer hot, humid days, paddling about in my little above ground pool in the backyard under the sweet smelling magnolia trees...90 degrees in the shade!
But then I remember Octobers back up home...the trees all dressed in their orange, red, and brown, as my Gramma said, for my birthday party...the smell of burning leaves, the excitement of Halloween Trick or Treat, the lovely smells of Thanksgiving, and the sweet anticipation of Christmas...
Fantabulous write!

What a beautiful description of my favorite season! Here in California the seasons' transition is muted. So I like to plan my visits back to Kansas so they occur in the fall. I'll never miss winter, and spring in Kansas lasts about a week before the temps start their climb, and the deadly tornado season blows all the blooms off the trees and sends everybody scurrying to a basement or storm shelter. Your evocative descriptions call up the vivid and breathtaking vistas created by autumn. What a delight to read.

It's cool here in Mass. today too. Definitely reminds me of fall. Beautiful imagery, Rita! I love the line 'foliage flavored turmeric and saffron.' Great description. Another wonderful write!

Thank you, Sharon! I have been in Mass. in fall - gorgeous!
I've been feeling the siren call of Fall myself over the last few days. This motivates me to work in my garden, and do some outdoor painting and home maintenance before the next cold wave hits, and so I haven't been writing much lately. Perhaps there will be a Fall poem contest in October after I'm driven indoors by Autumn's leafy thrill and the chill. The Holidays are coming up fast.

Yes, with fall comes cooler weather and holidays... Love it! Thanks, Aethereal.
There's nothing like fall. The turning colors of leaves, the weather starts cooling down. You've summed it up cleverly within this well written poem. Great work Rita. :)

I was once partial to fall myself; now I prefer the spring...

Both are lovely... but fall brings cooler air (not a fan of the heat...)
Beautifully done with great rhyming. Love it.

I read this out loud and it's a beauty to speak. "Crave the taste of Fall..." - I live in a windy climate which basically rips the leaves from trees the moment Autumn starts, so this perfectly expresses my desire to see the season as it should be! You've managed to achieve a very lyrical poem full of imagery that's also easy to understand and take in, which I don't find with a lot of poetry.
