Now the Farm Has Him

Now the Farm Has Him

A Poem by Rita L. Sev
"

What happened on that farm?

"

A cow and a chicken and a pig

on Old MacDonald’s Farm

had heard an awful rumor

that Old Mac meant them harm

“It can’t be true!” the cow exclaimed,

and the chicken clucked her assent,

but the pig remained disgruntled,

not trusting the farmer’s intent

Demanding a meeting with the man

he oinked out accusations,

“We hear you plan to fatten us,

then turn us into rations!”

Old MacDonald stammered some,

“Ee…I…Ee…I… oh…”

He kept that cow and hen and pig,

and the song? Well, now you know.

I love cow and chicken - they ended up becoming big stars after all - thank the Lord they weren't harmed and Babe did okay for himself too.
This is so funny Rita - I love explanations of how songs may have came about - even mad ones..lol

A good write Rita. It made me laugh. I love your explanation for Old MacDonald's song. Creative and a fun read. Good imagery and descriptives. Flow is good as is the line to line transition and breaks. Good rhythm with nice use of enjambment. Rhyme is good as is the rhyme scheme. Every second/fourth line of each stanza is a nice mix of perfect feminine and masculine end line rhyme that is executed with precision in this piece. Excellent personification of the chicken, pig and cow. Good dialogue emphasizes the feeling of their worry. You have a knack for writing humorous poetry. You do it so well. Well penned and an enjoyable read. Write on!
