Writer's Pad

Writer's Pad

A Poem by Rita L. Sev
"

Angi's challenge, accepted...

"

This room once waited for a child;

now it waits  for a different

labor of love,

for inspiration to burst forth

from its uninspired trappings:

~ The volumes resting

on wooden shelves ~

(writers I will never be…)

~ the sticky notes of daily life ~

          * call Dave

          * stop by school

          * bread, soap, Draino

(none of it accomplished yet…)

~ hundreds of ideas,

 seeds on scraps, waiting to ripen.

(not today…)

A pink wireless coffer,

ready to protect my precious gems

(if I ever find them…)

Stacks of blank yellow

simultaneously beckon and mock ~

(Fill me up, Buttercup…

Ha! You have nothing to give…)

Still I perch, then pace, and ponder

each turn of the ceiling fan another idea,

full of hot air

The challenge - to paint your writing space with words. Looks kind of cluttered to me...

Oh Rita, that first stanza rocked me. The books, notes, seeds of ideas,the (Pink!) coffer waiting on gems (I wait too!) along with your mocking legal pads all paint this room for me. A room of loss, a room of found strength, a room for learning and a room for life. There is hardly hot air in there, girl! Your words flit and float all over that welcoming place. Loved it! Angi~

Jacob, I am truly grateful for your words, and for your support.
You don't even want to hear about mine...
I like the pink thingie....
But where is the dog? I gotta have a dog!! I can't write without a dog snoring in a big rocking chair near my desk...or up under my feet trying to get my attention with his ball....

You painted a vivid picture of your writing space, Rita. I love the first verse... writing is much like our babies, waiting to be born from the imagination of our minds. Well crafted free verse. Vivid imagery and descriptives. You paint a picture that any person can see in their mind's eye. Those tiny scraps with ideas, boy do I relate to that. They seem to end up on shelves throughout my house. Good depth of feeling. Good word choice. I like the call and response aspect of the piece:
"Stacks of blank yellow
simultaneously beckon and mock ~
(Fill me up, Buttercup…
Ha! You have nothing to give…)"
Excellent closing lines. It made me smile. Write on!
