Muser

Muser

A Poem by Rita L. Sev
"

He's the monster in my room at night...

"

There’s a muser in my bedroom

he lives under the bed

he tries to keep me up all night

with dark thoughts in my head

He whispers possibilities

that I’ve not contemplated,

the ways in which my happy life

could turn to be ill-fated

When I was small, the light switch

chased bedroom beasts away

but once he digs his claws in,

there’s no keeping him at bay

And so I let him ruminate

and walk across my mind

where he runs into a sunbeam

and then leaves me behind

This was a fun piece that made me smile at the surface of it. I was also reminded of the nights when one's body is desperate for sleep but the brain isn't. It just keeps planning and running through all manner of thoughts.

Wonderful work yet again. :)

Thank you, Rogue! I appreciate your words here!
My interpretation involves a battle with depression, or internal anguish? either way, very well written, easy to read.

As we age the bogey man ages to, he does not disappear he mearly shape-shifts. But the same remedy applies - the clear light of day. I always love the positivity in your works. Thank you

Ha! No - just fill your head with sunshine and he'll leave you alone! Thanks, Rose!
Mine lived in the closet, eating my toys at night. That terrible crunching sound still haunts me or maybe it's just my old bones creaking...oh well.

Very well done my friend, nice rhyme and meter found my eyes this day.

Thank you, Jack. There's no room for a monster in my closet - that's where the skeletons are...
That's why a lot of people drink.

I'm sure it is, Marie!
A muser must be a muse's pet, one with claws, and teeth. I enjoyed the rhyme as well as your story about that little muser rascal. Perhaps you're alluding to a mouser.

Ha - no, mice don't dare come to my house - we have a brave cat! Thank you, Aethereal.
