Can I Get a HAND?

Can I Get a HAND?

A Poem by Rita L. Sev
"

...

"

Hearing the news

About violence and strife

Veils the true joy

Enmeshed in life

Anger and greed

Nullify grace

Ignorance hailed,

Conceit interlaced

Each year it declines,

Dulling our senses

And we just keep spewing

Yammered pretenses

Look in the mirror for your smile, Jack - carry it with you, and mean it! :) Thank you!

I could smile more if I knew how to spell. :)
Keeping a positive attitude in this world is a challenge everyday. It seems everywhere we turn there is some form of hurt.

Yes - and there is a lot of good, too - just sometimes hard to see it...

Thank you, Prathama!
There may always be something bad happening smeplace on earth, but surely there's something nice happening too.

You are right, Marie - and that is the best outlook!
I sense a delightful structure as the foundation for this rhyme that makes it flow beautifully down to the last symbol. There are those who tell the news, those who talk about the news, and finally those who talk about those who do both. News is all to often a camouflage that hides the day to day joy that we experience in life whereby it changes our mood in a negative way if we let it. Among seven billion people, their's always something bad happening some place on Earth.

Sad, but true. Thank you, Aethereal!
Oh, very clever!
But we must be socially correct, musn't we? I love the way you put this acrostic together with rhyme, to teach us a lesson in insincerety.
Skillfully crafted. Very well done, indeed!

Thank you so much, Angel! You are a person who I believe actually means the words "have a nice day!".. read more
yes, a skillful acrostic..why? because often "have a nice day" is such a veiled statement...we say it, but often don't mean it...or we just don't really care and it is all formality to speak the words...

this reminds me of how a poet once spoke of emily dickinson's days...when so many died of consumption...when people asked "how are you today?"

they meant it..cause so many died young..

i wish it wasn't like what you have portrayed here Rita..but it is truth in this poem..
and i WOULD give you a hand...but that would leave me with only one.

:)

really well done, Acrostic!

How true, Rita, are your words. A good write and message. I'm partial to rhyme, and you do it so well. A skillfully crafted acrostic. Well penned and a good read. Write on!
