The Early Worm

The Early Worm

A Poem by Rita L. Sev
"

Not such a good deal for him...

"

Wriggling up from his slumber

the sun shines strong and firm

it’s a great day to get moving

for the lively early worm

There is much talk, now this is true,

about that early bird

but there are things that you should know

which you may not have heard

The fowl is hailed for conquering

late risers he has beaten

The injustice is this other fact ~

the early worm gets eaten

Thank you, Onku! Poetry is everywhere...
In my street its the early big fat bloated blackened monster slug - my god ! Can't walk without squishing them by the dozen.
This poem will not be televised Rita - as true as it is - alas the bird is destined for eternal glory.
Great word-smithing (he said making words up)

Eww - slugs! Not a fan of those... Yes, I do think the bird will always win. Thanks, Anto!
I thought I`d offer a very good reason our friend Willy the worm comes out in the morning, Rita....

I know I am food,
but I`m also quite keen
to move to a good
patch of green

so now I`ve come out
I`m looking around
to slither about
overground

It`s hard for a worm
to meet his true love
if he cannot squirm
up above.

Ha! So he's looking for that special, slimy someone... Thanks for this insight, Pete!
well ya know most crimes happen at night and I am an uneaten early worm but I do wonder what the owls are up to...gotta keep an eye on them..if only I could stay up...and to think if I did stay up I wouldn't risk the chance of getting dried out in the sun...but to watch a sunrise is the best thing in the wormy world*)
thank you so fine teach

It seems that you've looked out of your window in the morning and found a poem. Worms have no choice but to escape the damp ground in the morning, and the birds know that. I was inspire to write this small poem for you as a gift to keep as your own: I interlaced 0/0/0/0 meter with /0/0/0/ meter in this poem to get:

Worm Song

Dew damp ground in the morning
makes me surface as I squirm
I'll drown if I'm not moving.
I must be an early worm.

Hi Rita. A wonderful write. Clever. Love the humor. Skillfully crafted rhyme which I always enjoy. Imagery is good as are the descriptives. You paint a vivid picture with your words. Flow is good; line yo line transition and breaks are done well. Very nice rhythm. Rhyme is good as is its scheme. Every second/fourth line in the first two stanzas are perfect masculine end line rhyme; the last stanza perfect feminine end line rhyme. Good depth of feeling. Excellent closing lines. Well penned and a much enjoyed read. Write on!
