Musing

Musing

A Poem by Rita L. Sev
"

Happiness is like a butterfly which, when pursued, is always beyond our grasp, but, if you will sit down quietly, may alight upon you. - Nathaniel Hawthorne

"

Hovering near is my Muse

On wings of words she flies

          but just as I approach,

          she escapes into the skies

My flimsy net of thin blue lines,

So close, I almost reach her

but then she flits away so fast,

          elusive, fragile creature

At times I must surrender to

My untamable resister

and hope to try another day

to catch one of her sisters

Thank you, Brittney! I am so happy you enjoyed this poem!
How difficult it is to capture in words the beauty our mind can conjure! I loved this, it was very light hearted. :)

:) Thank you again, Skye! I am so glad you are enjoying these writes!
That was pretty funny... those muses are very fickle, it is like trying to control a child.

Yes, an unruly child with a mind of her own! Thanks, Dale!
You had your muse when you wrote this. Nice rhymes

I caught the little bugger after all, I suppose - Ha! Thanks, Mark!
Very nice. I just only recently learned about "muse" and what that means. Imagine writing all these years and never knowing! I used to call it "writers block" now I know to say "my muse has left me." And just think you got a poem out of the situation, guess you catch your muse after all. ;)

Ahh, those fickle little creatures...how they do love to tease. How beautiful they are, how quick to fly just out of reach...
Yes, I can definitely relate to this one, Rita!!

Thanks, Angel - sorry I missed this earlier...
You've captured the elusive spirit of the dreadful creature! I wrote similar sentiments in my poem, "My Muse", but in a much darker, more sinister context.

I especially loved those last two lines of your final stanza. I hope you catch one!

Demanding. Yes, that is the word. Demanding.

Yes, the laughter - haha! Can't catch me! - argh! :) Thanks, Angi!
A wonderful poem. I think I traded my muse for minions back in 2009. In retrospect - it wasn't a good trade. love the line "my flimsy net of thin blue lines"
