King Charming

King Charming

A Poem by Rita L. Sev
"

A prince no more...

"

My handsome prince once moved with ease

Now his legs ache from feet to knees

His boyish grin, still so endearing,

Though he’s lost a bit of hearing

That touch of silver in his hair;

I don’t recall that being there

Once majestic in my eyes

His royal title realized

Stood so regal in his youth,

Now we’re both prolonged in tooth

A prince no more, the crown I bring

Is for my sweet and Charming King

Thanks, Stella! Me, too!
I am at an age that can relate to this (other than the royal part). I enjoyed it immensely. Fine rythym and perfect rhyme with the line ending "prolonged in tooth" especially clever. You succeed in making a poem about old age amusing.

Lovely! He is a very lucky man.

"Prolonged of tooth" is such a charming and elegant turn of phrase.

A well constructed poem and perhaps more importantly the type of message any man would want to recieve.

Exactly! And I am so lucky to be his queen :) Thanks, Marie!
This is so sweet. I had to smile, being familiar with those... uhmm... little signs of maturity. I tell you, some of my parts have about matured clean off.

Ha! But good men, like fine wine, grow better with age... Thank you, Sam!
what more could a king ask for than the love and admiration and respect of a good woman? i love the skillful and reverent way you penned this, Rita!

:) Good write Rita. I liked how you used grey hair as a symbol for silver which in turn is symbolic of regality. I think people tend to perceive aging in too negative a light. I like the title too, for the prince has morphed into a king. :)

Yes, he will! Thank you, Pax!
Age catches up to all of us eventually, especially those we hold in such high regard. We notice it even more than usual in those figures, because we examine them so closely. I really like the way you set this one up, and the rhyme is brilliant. It's both interesting and difficult to watch the ones we love age, and you display that feeling brilliantly. Excellent work, Rita.
