Champagne Dreams

Champagne Dreams

A Poem by Rita L. Sev
"

They don't last

"

Bubbles rose to the top

Her champagne dreams came true

The life she said she wanted

It looked as good as new

But if you look too closely

You’ll get a different view

Not the image she wants seen

With golden tongue she drew

Now I sit here, remembering

The shame she put me through;

Champagne dreams don’t last for long,

But seltzer dreams ~ they do.

Had friends who chided my lack of ambition for things like money and a fancy house. Needless to say, we don't speak anymore...

the shame is on them...

those dreams even if achieved, the joy is ephemeral---there has to be substance..

and people are more important than things.

Yep. I knew it back then, and I know it even more now. Thank you, Jacob.
