Wedding Gown

Wedding Gown

A Poem by Rita L. Sev
"

Worn only once

"

Cream and lace formed lovingly

by deft maternal fingers

And even after all these years

The memory still lingers

Preserved it is, inside a box;

Occasionally I peek

When that day seems far away

And its nostalgia I seek

That gown I’ll never wear again

A young bride’s homespun glory

Carries in its fabric

My very own love story.

My mother made my wedding gown - from veil to shoe covering. It's a shame that I can't wear it every day... Yes, that's an actual wedding pic, over 21 years ago.

My pleasure...:)
Rita, this is gorgeous and you were a beautiful bride. It must be special to have your mom make your wedding gown. How wonderful...the poem is just as special...at least to me

Wow how lovely Rita, I know a person that actually had her's framed and keeps it on display in her foyer. I think her grandmother made hers if I'm not mistaken. What a simply gracious way of honoring your mom and her love for you.

What a lovely homage to your wedding gown. I haven't had mine preserved yet but I often think about peaking inside the garment bag, hehe. It is funny how a dress can bring about such nostalgia. Beautiful piece.

it's a phenomenon i don't understand....all the time and energy (and money) that goes into a wedding gown...for the bride to wear it just once....not to detract from the special and happy day but....seems like one of the dumbest traditions ever...similar to killing a live tree just to have it in your home three weeks and toss it on the garbage pile...the older i get, the more i think we are a ridiculous species....may the creator help us all! this is a wonderful write, Rita....all brides will adore this, past and present and future...

that's impressive, that your mother made your wedding gown completely. Wedding gowns are such beautiful dresses; it is a shame they are only worn once.... but they carry more memories from that one day of use than most articles of clothing people wear for years on end. beautiful poem Rita :)
