Deity

or Big Bang ~

adds a daub,

a mere drop

 

And we become part

of the masterpiece

Very elegant. Beautiful thought, and a beautiful Carl Sagan quote too! Lovely end too: that's my favourite line. Perhaps you needn't have explicitly mentioned 'deity' or 'big bang' and instead added an adjective to 'artist'....let the reader fill in the gaps so to speak...just my two cents. But it's a very minor change. It is a wonderful poem in its original form. Thanks

Thank you. I see what you mean about the Artist - I guess I wanted to allow for either belief, that in both cases, we are a small brush stroke in the grand scheme of things. Thanks for your insight!

You're welcome. I understand what you mean. By simply writing artist, people would automatically assume you were talking about God, and the balanced perspective that you wanted to convey wouldn't come out. That's a very valid point. :)

I watched the "Cosmos" series when it was new, and became a big fan of Dr. Sagan. Many segments were memorable.
