My Friends

My Friends

A Poem by Rita L. Sev
"

How did I get so popular?

"

On Facebook and on Google

I have so many friends

On Pintrest, Linked in,

Tumblr and Vox; the list just never ends

I love to talk to all my buds;

Well, text or PM or Tweet

I relish the chat rooms and forums

Where a group of us can meet

And yet I wish quite wistfully

Though it’s to no avail

For real encounters, face to face,

No IMs, blogs or emails.

Yes, I surely realize

This approach is too conventional;

Still, I really liked it when

My friends were three dimensional.

Thank you very much, Eddie!
I enjoy your thoughts are always pure and precise. I like interacting online it's fun. I've always been more of a loner, but my wife is the friend I like hanging with the most. Ever since WC I rarely go on FB.

We are more sophisticated than Facebookers.
Your "silly thought" is excellent, Rita. This is a bliss to read, quite a break from those serious, where's-the-dictionary pieces. The rhymes are good, and the content is interesting, and quite funny (of course, without sacrificing truth.) I imagine seeing you with a smile while you're "reading this out loud" like a speech to all of us here. :)

A fun read and cleverly done but you raise significant questions like what does it mean to be a "friend" in a digital age.

Yes, that's true - perhaps we need a new term for internet friends... Thanks, John.
Three dimensional friends are the best. Lovely write, Rita.

As nice as these online friends are, I agree... Thanks, Pryde.
If the interenet goes down, I am feeling so let down. I have made so many friends around the world throught this hunk of metal and plastic in front of me. How wonderful to sit with friends in 3d, but I will take this version, too!

Amen to that! Thanks, Mark.
Funny, it used to be a bit upsetting when you found a friend was not home when you knocked on their door...now a bad connection will do the same. Very cool Rita.

Ha! True, Jack! Thanks!
Ha a sign of the times...such a modern poem, you'd have never seen this not too many moons ago, amazing how modern technology has changed the way we interact, some ways not so good, it's too easy to switch on a computer and connect. Contemporary and timely one Rita.
