Sonnet of an English TeacherA Poem by Rita L. SevThe lament of my colleagues and me
An English teacher makes so many plans
Striving each day to share poems, books, words To media and technology fans Grunting, texting, monosyllabic herds Stories of great importance go unknown Unless a film is made to tell the tale To read a novel, students are not prone Since Spark Notes and internet will not fail Written expression has taken a dive Punctuation and spelling not enforced Ensuring that the language stays alive The Language Arts teacher's task to endorse Communication, written or spoken Leaves many English teachers heartbroken
