Blech!

Blech!

A Poem by Rita L. Sev
"

A little verse about my least favorite food.

"
Potato, macaroni
Egg, tuna or slaw
These salads never
Pass through my maw
Nothing against
Fish, cabbage or spuds
It's the white slime that makes
These side dishes duds
Onto a sandwich
It's commonly spread
What a terrible insult
To the innocent bread
Not one thing about
The goo earns my praise
I'd rather go lunchless
Than eat mayonnaise

Written as an example that a poem can be about anything for which we feel passion - even about something we despise. This assignment is a student favorite each year!

Love it.
Passion can be good or bad; but it is still passion. I learned that from my communications professor in undergrad. She had us listen to the NPR "This I Believe" and then write out own. It was one of the best writing experiences of my life because it made me look deeply into who I really am and what it is that I am seeking.
This poem does some of that as well. Wonderful (although I do like mayonnaise)

Oh woman. I just want you to know, I could eat Hellman's with a spoon. Not one of those little teaspoons, either. I could use one of those big daddy spoons! Ha! This was a fun piece that had me laughing. There are so many things to unlove in this world, huh? I am so happy I could place you in my contest. Thank you for submitting! Angi~

:) Thank you again, dear Angi! :)
I agree, poetry is about emotion whether it's about something we like or hate. It's a nice change to see used on the latter. Great work.

Holly, cleverly worded review! Thanks!
How very true. I have never understood why anybody would want to smear mayonnaise on anything! Here in Spain it's a big favourite. Those of you who are partial to a bit of mayonnaise keep it to yourselves! Thanks for this funny little piece.
