Peek-a-boo

Peek-a-boo

A Poem by Rita

It's dark.
I can't see.
But oh well, I'm hiding!
So I wouldn't care to see,
A treasure so precious--so new to the world,
I am a victim of reality.
Oh heartless thief!
How you love to keep,
The future in your sack,
Push dreams away,
So in the present we stay,
Yearning for what we lack.
Merciless terror!
Why tell and torture?
Away with the unreachable tense!
Await the last grain to fall?
No--I'll lose my sense!
I uncover my eyes,
Hands above head,
Now knowing what to do,
I smile at the infant that I share,
And laugh--Peek-a-boo!
