By Your Side

By Your Side

A Poem by Ashley Robel

Your rare smiles,
And even rarer laughs.
I hold my breath to see and hear
The happiness you feel, if even for a moment.

I hold you near and dear,
Even as you try to push me away.
My heart is breaking more each day
As I wait for you to see me.

See me for who I am.
The one who loves you with all she is.
Push all you want,
I won’t budge a single inch.

I’m staying here,
at your side.
It feels right
Where I am supposed to be.
