The Road

The Road

A Poem by Ashley Robel

A road lies before me.
It’s one I’ve never been on.
I’m scared of what it holds,
Excited to find out.

I look down at this path,
Paved in it’s plated gold.
Hold me as I start my walk,
To what future has in store.

As I start my journey,
What do they think?
The wandering eyes upon me,
Do they care that I’ll be gone?

My heart shakes with sobs
As I realize what this means.
No more will my mother hold me,
Shelter me from the world.

I lie in my bed and dream,
Of the times when I was young.
So full of giggles,
My life had just begun.

Now the road is winding,
As I look up above.
Not knowing what’s ahead of me,
I just trust in love.

Love to hold me together,
To make me feel all right.
Love to keep me attached,
To family and to light.

As I make this trip,
I know that backs are turned.
But as I travel on this road,
I won’t let myself be burned.

About
Ever since I was a young girl I have loved to write. This could have stemmed from my own mother's love of such a pass-time and career goal. I have, in the past, written many things. However, I have .. more..
