Gabriella One
With a sigh I turned the keys in the ignition of my car, turning it off.
I looked out the rain spotted windshield, looking at my friend’s house. Removing
the keys I took off my seat belt and opened the door, putting my keys
in my bag after locking the doors. I slammed the door shut since it was the
only way it would stay shut. My leather combat boots splashed in the puddles in
my friend’s drive way as I walked up to the front door. I pounded up the front
steps before knocking once and opening the front door.
“Ashley! I’m here!” I looked around before kicking off my boots and letting my
bag drop to the floor. My parents were out of town, so I was staying the week
at Ash’s house.
“I’m up here! I’ll be down in a second!” I heard her scream from upstairs
before I found my way to her living room where her brother was screaming at
his xbox.
“No, no, no! God damn it!” I smiled at him as he threw the controller down next
to him on the couch. He had just been sniped by someone on the roof of a
building. I sat on the arm of the couch as he picked the controller up again as
he respawned. I tossed my purse onto the coffee table, the keys and old
slide phone inside making a thudding sound against the glass of the table top.
“You know, the objective is to not get shot.” I smirked at
him as he shot me a glare over his shoulder. He paused the game and turned to
look at me.
“Don’t you think I know that?” He tries to hide a smile as he glares at me.
I was about to respond when Ashley came downstairs and handed me her iPhone. I
looked at her questioningly as she plopped down on the couch and
grabbed a magazine off the coffee table. Ryan sighed and got up after turning
off the xbox, obviously not wanting to know what was up with Ashley and her now
bad mood. Typical siblings.
“Text Maddy and tell her that I’m not going to the stupid party
tonight. She keeps pestering and pestering me about it and I’m sick of it.” Ash
looked at me before flipping through the magazine, pretending to be interested
in whatever celebrity gossip it held. I saw right through it, I knew she could
care less about celebrities unless they were hot guys.
With a
shrug, I unlocked her phone, the screen greeting me with messages
from Maddy. They had been arguing over whether or not Ash was going to the
club tonight. Our friend, Tobias, just came back from visiting a
school in Europe, so he rented the place out and invited everyone he knew.
Perks of having rich parents, I guess.
I began to respond to Maddy, telling her that Ashley isn’t going
because her ex was going to be there. I pressed send and sighed, exiting the
messaging app and finding something to do on her phone. I moved and sat next to
Ashley, scrolling through her apps.
I looked up ten minutes later
as Maddy burst into Ashley’s living room, her long blonde pony tail
swishing back and forth as she walked, and stomped her foot, just as she
does every time she doesn't get her way. The see-through
shirt Maddy was wearing was slightly unbuttoned to show her
black bra underneath. Leave it to her to her to dress the way every other
blonde chick was these days. Maddy’s blue eyes were shining with frustration,
her tanned face was twisted up in the same look she always gives us when she
doesn’t get what she wants, when she wants. We all think it's pathetic. We as
in Ashley, Brook, Snow, Zoe, and I. I saw Ashley roll her eyes at Maddy's
tantrum out of the corner of my eye and snorted. I couldn’t help the snotty
thought that popped into my mind. Oh great… time for another one of
Maddy’s world famous tantrums.
“Oh come on,
Ash!” Maddy stomped her faux leather booted foot again, throwing her
equally fake leather bag onto the couch, just barely missing me. I frowned at
it and moved away, Maddy throwing an exaggerated eye roll
in my direction. “You need to go to this party!” She whined.
“Please, please please!” Maddy had actually clasped her hands
together and gotten on her knees in front of Ashley, begging her to let her
have her way. Again. Come on... What are we? Three? Jesus Christ, you
baby.
I shrugged but didn’t look up from Ashley’s
iPhone. I didn’t have my own, didn’t care to have an iPhone since it would
break within a week anyway. I continued scrolling through the pictures on
Ashley’s camera roll. “If she doesn’t want to go, don’t make her go.”
Maddy narrowed her cat-like eyes at me,
putting her hands on her narrow, too-skinny hips. “You’re supposed to be
helping me, Gabri.” Maddy spit my name at me. She never
liked me, mostly because I didn’t put up with her s**t. I know she did it
because she doesn’t get enough attention at home. Her parents were to busy,
being doctors and all.
Well, she didn’t like that I didn’t take
her s**t. I was probably her best friend even though she hated to admit it. She
would admit it when no one is around though.Ouch, I didn’t know I
could give less f***s about your wants. I grinned, loving the things
I think of, wishing I had the guts to say them just to piss her off. It is fun
to annoy Maddy, mainly because she’s like the younger sister I never had.
Everyone annoys their younger siblings, right? At least they do in the movies.
I put my hands up,
pretending to apologize. Ashley threw her latest issue of US
Weekly that she had been flipping through onto the wooden coffee
table in front of the couch in her living room, narrowly missing my glass of
water.
“You’re both being ridiculous!”
She snapped.Well f**k. I looked up from the overly expensive
phone in my hands, directing my attention to Ashley. She wasn’t pissed, she was
just annoyed at us.
Maddy crossed her arms and Ashley sighed,
throwing her hands to her sides. “Is Liam going to be there?” She
finally asked, standing up. Liam was not a good topic when it comes
to Ashley.
Maddy smiled revealing her
straight white teeth, attempted to uncross her arms before crossing them back
again, and looked Ashley in the eyes.
Ashley widened her eyes, anticipating
an answer. Maddy’s eyed flickered to me, pleading for help. So now the
b***h needs me. Wow.
I smirked and crossed my arms over my
annoyingly busty chest, leaving Maddy to fend for herself. Its time
she learn to deal with things when they didn’t go her way. I looked
at Maddy, she shifted her weight nervously to her left foot and managed a
semi decent smile. “No, you know he wouldn’t dare go. He knows that I would
whoop his a*s.” She said, knowing damn well that the odds of Liam being
at the party was huge and knowing that she wouldn’t break a nail
over Liam. Ashley would probably run into him while he was making out with
some poor, drunk girl. I almost gagged at the thought.
Ash smiled slightly and walked
upstairs, probably to get ready. Maddy walked backwards behind Ashley
so she could look me dead in the eyes. I shook my head and looked at her before
rolling my eyes. She smirked, realizing that she had gotten her way. She looked
at me and mouthed “I win” in a not-so-nice way.
I smirked back and pointed at the
ceiling with a not-so-friendly finger before looking at the iPhone again. It
would be a long time before they were ready since Maddy, the
perfectionist, was up there with Ashley. It would be strange to see Ash in
anything but her normal yoga pants and hoodie. She’s been in a slump since
her and Liam ended. I doubt it had affected Liam at all.
I thought about how Ash would run into him at
the club again. Man, she’s managed to go all summer with out seeing
him. Why does it have to end tonight? F*****g Maddy, messing things up.
I hope Maddy doesn’t put as
much makeup that’s on her face on Ash’s face. Ashley doesn’t need make up,
she’s gorgeous as it is. Even if she’s only fifteen and is the youngest of all
of us. Ash is pretty much perfect. She’s short, but not too short, had
cornflower blue eyes and curly blond hair. I’m jealous of her every time I see
her. Even in sweats she’s still amazing. B***h. Getting all the good
looks.
Maddy is practically the same. Blue eyes,
blonde hair. The only differences are Maddy is tall and tan
while Ash is short and pale. Heck, they were both perfect. Except for Maddy’s
attitude she was perfect. A cheeseburger wouldn’t be to bad for her every once
in awhile though. She could use a few pounds.
I looked over at
Maddy’s faux leather bag and opened it, digging out a pair of white
headphones. I plugged them into Ashley’s phone before putting the buds in my
ears. I found her music app and began scrolling through her music. I found her,
sadly, only album of Imagine Dragons before putting the album on repeat. It
would probably play through several times before they were ready.
Like I had predicted, the album played
through around three times before they were the headphones were ripped
out of my ears by Maddy, her high pitched voice saying they were done in my
ear. I sighed and looked over at Ashley and Maddy, taking them in.
“You guys do know we’re going to a club
and not a casual gathering?” I raised an eyebrow at the two, Maddy as usual was
dressed to the best but Ashley was wearing a simple black crop top and some
high waisted skinny jeans.
“I know, I couldn’t get her to wear
anything better. I was damn near about to take off my outfit and force it on
her. I laughed and looked at Maddy. Ashley would never wear a sheer white top
for fear of people seeing her bra. Ashley would never wear a pencil skirt
either, she wouldn’t like how it would constrict her. The only thing relatively
club worthy about Ashley right now was her golden hair that was curled, Maddy
had to curl the natural curls until they looked like fake ringlets.
“Why did you mess with her hair?” I
looked at Maddy and she scoffed.
“I made it so it wasn’t flying all over
the place, thank you very much.” Maddy used the tone of voice
that basically saying ‘you’re stupid and I could care less about your
opinions.’ She picked up her fake leather purse off the couch, the
contents making noises within it.
“Whatever, I just think her natural
hair would suit her so much better.” I got up and grabbed my bag off the coffee
table before digging out my keys. “If this party goes to s**t, I’m blaming you,
Maddy.”
“Who am I riding with?” Ashley stood by
the couch, her fingers twisting around themselves nervously. She was
nervous for the party, that much I could tell.
“Who ever you want, Ash.” I hiked the
straps to my bag up to my shoulder before walking to the door, Maddy and Ashley
following close behind me.
“Ryan! We’re leaving!” Ashley called up
the stairs in the front entry way of her house, pounding footsteps
came running down the hall upstairs a second later.
Ryan stood by the top of the stairs, looking
down at us. “Leaving to where exactly?” He crossed his muscular arms over his
chest, frowning slightly.
“To that party I told you about earlier?”
Ashley said it more like a question, basically asking if it was okay for her to
go. Now we were never going to get out of this house with out Ryan following us
and asking us questions about every thing that could possibly be at the party.
“Give me a second, I’m coming with.”
Ryan turned and ran back to his room, his shaggy blond hair swishing back and
forth as he ran.
“You’d better make it quick, pretty
boy!” Maddy yelled from beside me, causing me to jump. She was right, if we
wanted to make it into the club we had to get going and quick. Not even three
minutes later Ryan came running downstairs, a tight black crew neck t-shirt was
clinging to his chest and biceps, showing off his muscles. He’d make any girl’s
mouth water.
I shook my head and went to the door,
opening it and stepping out. Ryan would most likely ride with whoever Ash rode
with which would probably be me. Just focus on the road, you dummy.
Don’t want to kill your best friend and her brother because you were too busy
staring at Mr. Quarterback. I pressed the unlock button on my key
fob, smiling when my car chimed.
My car wasn’t bought for me, I worked
my a*s off for it. I worked for every dime spent towards it and I was damn
proud of it. I managed to find a car that was cheep and didn’t run like crap or
look like crap, I lucked out. I crossed Ashley’s yard to get to my car, opening
the door and tossing my bag in.
“Ash, are you and your brother riding
with me?” I looked at her, resting my arm on the top of the car. She looked
over at Ryan and he shrugged his broad shoulders.
“Doesn’t matter to me, Ashley. I’m
riding where ever you’re riding.” Ashley scoffed and rolled her eye, obviously
not liking her brother’s answer. She looked at me and nodded, getting in the
passenger side of my car. I rolled my eyes too before getting in and shutting
the door, putting the keys in the ignition. Ryan got in the back, his long legs
barely able to fold in the small space. I stifled a laugh as I put my seat belt
on and started the car, not bothering to wait for Maddy as I pulled out of
Ashley’s driveway.
“So, what is this party for again?”
Ryan met my eyes in the rear view mirror and I quickly looked away, shrugging
as I drove to the address Ashley had told me. I’ve never been there and I had
no intention of ever being there, but I couldn’t let Ash do it by herself.
Maddy was most likely going to ditch her when she found her boyfriend.
“No idea, I’m just here for Ash.”
Ashley smiled at me as I said that and pointed down a street, I guess I needed
to turn down there.
“That makes two of us,” He grinned at
me in the mirror again and I had to roll my eyes at him. Getting into something
with your best friend’s brother is never a good idea, trust me, it always ends
badly.
Ashley pointed to another street and
then to a one story building that was built of red brick. It looked big, and it
probably looked bigger on the inside. There were no windows, just two class
doors in the front. The parking lot was practically full of cars, all cars I
recognized from our high school. Great.
“This is a club?” I’ve never been to a
club but this didn’t look anything like what I had pictured a club to look
like. I mean, sure, there was a long line a chicks dressed in skin tight
clothes and there was a bouncer, but it didn’t look like a club people would go
to by choice.
After about five minute of searching
for a parking spot and about thirty minutes of waiting in line while the cold
Autumn air managed to go right through my clothes, we finally got inside of the
club. Maddy had gotten in line behind us after cutting through a bunch of
people, their noticeably angry grumbles notifying us of her approach.
Everyone knew Maddy, and that meant everyone knew not to get in her way or stop
her from doing what she wants, otherwise you’d probably get a rumor spread
around about you pretty quick.
“Guys, I’m going to get a drink, I’ll
catch up with you later!” Maddy shouted over the music in the club as she
danced. We nodded and watched her dance her way over to the bar, some poor boy
being caught by the tie and dragged with her. She’d probably be having her way
with him in no time, boyfriend be damned.
I felt a tap on my shoulder and looked
over to see Ash, a small smile on her face. She pointed to a group of kids
behind her. “I’m going to go in the back room with them, is that okay?”
I smiled and nodded at her, she left
with her friends and I was left standing alone in the club. Ryan had left
several minutes ago to catch up with his football buddies. I sighed and found a
spot on the wall, leaning against it and watching all the horny teenagers grind
against each other to the upbeat music.
Someone moved in front of me, refusing to move
until I looked at them. “I’m not interested in drinking, thank you.”
I sighed and looked up at them, the smiling face of my friend Reyna greeting
me.
“I know you don’t drink,” She smiled
more and I couldn’t help but smile back, her crazy red hair framed her pale
face, her bright green eyes were framed with eye shadow that matched
the skimpy dress she was wearing. “But, that doesn’t mean we still can’t have
fun.”
She grabbed my arm and pulled me across
the dance floor and into another room with equally loud music. I heard someone
shout my name as I looked around the room, smiling when I saw Justin standing
there. My smile faded and turned into a scowl when I saw who was next to him.
