The Eternal Ones' Triumph

The Eternal Ones' Triumph

A Story by Mearra Reynolds
"

A story of how Pangaea split.

"

It was a sunny day, the day before the earth split, when the Eternal Ones were having a picnic on the lush united continent of Pangaea. One of the beings pulled out a bottle of wine and the other’s eyes widened when a loud thump interrupted their joyous meeting. The being with the wine looked down in shock at the still unopened bottle and plucked a protruding arrow from their side and promptly fell over, never to awaken. They knew no mere mortal had access to the vile arrow that had pierced the being. Only the Evil Ones could create such an arrow; its onyx point glistening with the shimmering golden blood of the Eternal One and unearthly spikes wrapping up to the black-painted feathers.

The Eternal Ones stood and gathered together to face their long-time enemy. Thick, menacing shadows drifted closer to them and out from them, grotesque creatures emerged. Their faces were not that of a human, they were twisted and beastly. The creatures snarled, their yellow eyes darting back and forth, looking for their next victim. The abominations clutched an arrow in each hand, knowing it was the only object that could banish the Eternal Ones. The creatures much preferred to send the arrows whistling through the air without the assistance of a bow.

The shadows never vanished, instead choosing to cling to the beasts. The Eternal Ones each drew a deep breath and began to concentrate, they would have to fight their hardest to banish the Evil Ones, forever this time. They started to channel their individual powers, each unique to them. Their abilities were very powerful, one could control the skies, another the waters, and another yet the winds around them. They fought their hardest and yet they still found themselves losing, the Evil Ones pushing and gaining more and more ground. One of the Eternal Ones stepped forward and in the chaos of the battle, they willed the ground to split.

The Evil Ones’ faces changed from an expression of victory to one of raw fear as they looked down and were consumed by the ground. The Eternal Ones listened until they had heard the last of the anguished cries and one of them spread water over the chasm. They looked around and saw that Earthly One had split all the land on the earth into seven wedges and the bits of land started to drift from one another, settling far away.
