Under this Smile

Under this Smile

A Poem by Ripple of Aqua
"

A story of changing. Will you be scared when I break down your walls? Inspired by the song: Underneath this Smile by Hillary Duff

"
Standing on melting ice
Stretching infinitely  for miles

 And then I see you
 Reaching out your hand

While the guitar strings along
The hope I've seen before

 You cave my world in
 As I dangle here
 You break the bad habits
 And undo my pretenses

You only see me in my own skin
As I hide underneath this smile here

 Can you save me?

Freeze the ice into concrete
Give a floor to my dangling feet

 Crumble the walls around me
 Rearrange the world around me

A drum plays on
Disbelievingly in your promises

Secrets I keep under your strobe-light
Wrapped in my midnight I'm not dreaming

Still walking this Earth
You don't let me know anything but you

Could you be the one to save me?

All under this smile
My world caves in.

We build walls to hide, bridges to meet. We think that if we have no bridges our walls will not be violated by the ways of others, our truth and our pain will not be known by outside eyes. We forget, however, that some people know how to swim through our moats, climb over our walls, sift through our lives and find us hiding there. The conflicting feelings of vulnerability and acceptance can be very difficult to deal with, and the uncertainty can be unbearable. Your poem conveys this feeling quite accurately. An excellent piece. Thank you.

We build our walls to protect us from the pain we have felt in the past. They get torn down when we let a person into our lives and if that person turns from you and cuts you then we put the walls back up. We sift through the lies to find the truth they where trying to hide. When you find someone who truly understand you, someone who gets you in a way no-one else does, you don't need the walls anymore... This is Very Good Ripple 100/100

Oh the joy and the pain of knowing people who can see right through you. A treat and a nuisance at the same time. You can feel so vulnerable but at the same time, so cared for. You paint this picture well =)! Wonderful piece!
