A City Unknown to MeA Poem by Ripple of AquaSong by Tomar Jonno:
The guitar plays lonely but happily for a little while,
Then accompanied by a voice it finds itself not alone. More instruments make themselves known, As the voice sings on, words I will never understand, Images appear before my closed eyes. Cloth wraps cobbled streets in color, Foods line the stands that lay elaborately before me, Filling the air with unfamiliar scents, Children race across my path smiling as they chase a ball. The voice stops and a moment of peace passes, Making my feet stop in the middle of the street to observe before me, Women carry things piled high on their waists, Buildings, not constructed squarely, billow to the clear blue sky above. Again, words of a different place float through that air, Showing me a place of where my skin is pale and alien, A market where delights I have never known exist, A city, that even in the fading sun, still is wide and fully awake. This is not my world, But it is a world I love all the same, A world I have never traveled to, A city that I have never seen, And a face that I have yet to meet. Great wonders await out of my boundaries, Away from the highways, And the apartments, and artificial lights, There is a world out there, Yet to be discovered for myself. I just can't wait for that song to fill me with welcome as I step on that different soil. And the guitar shows me the way back home. © 2012 Ripple of AquaAuthor's Note
