Rattling laughter against metal
trapped in a tin can
which is blown away
in this growing storm
Rusting, cracking, flaking,
this laughter fades
and it can’t stop shaking
it haunts this small space
echoing back
or repeating
living . . .
breathing . . .
dying
. . . . . .
and again.
Rattling laughter trapped
different this time
grows louder
replays
different
retells . . .
I
Can’t
tell . . .
. . .
Is it in my head?
far away?
against my ear?
or from you?
Rattling laughter growing louder
this tin can can't hold it
it's too small
just . . ./
(grows louder)
just . . ./
(slams against its cage)
just . . . . . . Breathe in
(Let it out)
Just . . . breathe in
. . . and laugh
