The Bodyguard

The Bodyguard

A Story by RingoBlood

Elena Cooke was one of the wealthiest women in the world. Her empire rose when she was just eighteen years old and since then she has only gone forwards, forwards and upwards.

She married at the age of twenty-one and had her first and only child a year later, her husband leaving her just four years after the birth of their child.

Elena has only ever wanted to do good by her daughter, and promised herself that until the day she stopped breathing, her daughter would be her number one priority. And she was.

Katherine Cooke was a beautiful girl, with long brown hair like her mothers, matching eyes and freckles dotting every inch of her face.

She was put into a private school since she started with her education and quickly rose to the top of her classes, being awarded with prizes in maths, physics as well as track and field.

She seemed to excel in everything that she put her mind to, a quality she shared with her mother, and when she turned seventeen years old, the difference between the two women was uncanny.

Everyone knew who Katherine Cooke was. Or at least they thought they did.

Whenever Katherine got home the first thing she would do would be to grab the guitar in her closet, bring it to the living room downstairs and sing.

She found it entertaining for herself and the guards and workers around the house didn't seem to mind either, the house becoming alive whenever Katherine would play the guitar.

When her mother's car would pull up outside, Katherine would start playing "What A Wonderful World", and Elena Cooke would happily make her entrance.

Swinging the double doors open and hearing the verse, mother and daughter would start to sing the beautiful song, waiting for it to die down before embracing the other.

Everyone who worked in the house or helped in some sort of way was considered family, and nobody outside of family knew about Katherine's singing.

It was her way of connecting with her mother and bringing fun to the house when it was quiet.

Her friends and classmates would describe Katherine as stubborn, ruthless when she wanted to be, upholding the title of rich girl.

Then when she got home she was a different person, dressed in baggy clothes, having nerf fights with the guards and singing with her mother.

Katherine never knew her father, but she did have memories of him, especially those of him leaving, not even trying to fight for her.

After that, she had always had an abandonment issue, so she held on to the bond with her mother especially tight.

Scared of being hurt again, Katherine didn't let there be a special person in her life, and always had limits for her classmates who at school she called friends.

Her best friend was her mother, and Elena Cooke was the only person Katherine ever needed.
