Marilyn Monroe's Corpse

Marilyn Monroe's Corpse

A Poem by Aethelwyne

    And then there was you

I had no idea the first time I saw you

   I was with another girl

  But we shared a moment

  Marilyn Monroe's corpse

And her dusty fake eyelashes

Then doing our makeup, getting drunk

And all the camera flashes

   The smell of clove cigars

    Always reminds me of you

     Being your best friend

And all the dirty things we would do

  Teaching me how to drive

 F*****g in the front seat

    Something new...

Used to hangout with all my friends at school

But you became my whole crew

We had a silly plan to run away to Ireland

Be together forever, no matter how much we sinned

Because through it all you loved me

         No matter what

   Even when I was a deceitful s**t

So I kept your secrets too

We'd occasionally bond them with a cut

  I think our boyfriends knew

But we kept it to ourself

The only thing we had remorse for

Was dipping in the piggy bank on the shelf

  We did everything together

   The good and the bad

Been through a few fights

   It still makes me sad

Laughing at girls at band practice

  Obsessed and full of lust

A lying, cheating a*****e brought me to you

Someone I know I can trust

  Five years have gone quick

Here's to another hundred more

Even when I can't stand the world

I wish you'd walk through my door

I'll never be able to classify what we have

There's not much I understand at all

But through all the ups and the downs

You catch me when I fall

This is so much more than a friendship

Sometimes in a fucked up, brooding way

But you're the one person in my life

I know is going to stay

  And I'm not scared

We've had our falling outs

Neither one of us will walk away

This trust is worth it's hardships

We kinda come as a package deal

You're different to me than the rest of the world

I'm not afraid to tell you how I feel

  Innocence, however plays no part

We both know what it's like

To give and receive a broken heart

But I love us just the way we are

  And we'll never be apart

I am completely blown away.

A revealing read. If this is biographical, you're certainly honest. Your words portray a bond that cannot be broken by any means. A good poem and an interesting one.
