The Ending

The Ending

A Poem by Aethelwyne

"We're going this way" I said
The short walk home
I threw up in the bathroom
Cause I had too many shots

And then I was sober
And it started to rain
The sweetest rain I ever stood in
And we stood, unmoved.

Your embrace, it lifts me off the ground,
Electrifies my veins
Stronger than your goodbye
That brings me to despair,
Weaker than my knees,
From your "hello" in the morning

So you carried me inside
Grasping me tight
The sweetest grasp we ever held
And we sat, unmoved

The rain became your tears,
Falling from your face,
Pouring from your soul,
Hitting home on my heart,
With the truth free at last
Forget the "what if's"

And all those pretty cars
At the show that day
Cause your eyes stood on me

Our hands wondered
"What would it be like?"
To be in one another's
While walking, unparted

And I swear I never saw,
A man like that cry
With a dozen reasons why
He could no longer be with someone else
Now there's no going back
When this is the ending.

About
Where dips the rocky highland Of Sleuth Wood in the lake, There lies a leafy island Where flapping herons wake The drowsy water-rats; There we've hid our faery vats, Full of berries .. more..
