Life and Death

Life and Death

A Poem by RiliVivi

One of my favorite oldies

Death…
Death is a strange thing.
First, you are here,
Then poof, out of nowhere,
You are here no more.
You reside only in memories.

Life on the other hand…
Life is a cruel thing,
At least to some.
Life favors some,
And leaves the rest hanging.

Life and death seem
To work hand in hand,
Living peacefully together.
Life picks at people and picks at people,
Like a grade school bully,
It always goes after the weak.
The weak are chosen by both life and death,
It is the weak that will always be less resistant,
Less resistant to life’s beatings
And death’s sweet songs of savior.

Does this mean that I am also weak?
I sometimes hear deaths soothing, soft chants.
Deep down we all hear his chants.
We are all dying,
Dying a slow and painful death.
It has dawned on me these past few years.
What is this death called?
It is life.
Life is our death.
