An Almost

An Almost

A Poem by Riley McKinney

You are an "almost"
A "so f*****g close!"
A "we were right there!"
A 2nd place when I was striving for first.
A note I missed by one piano key
A heart just barely out of my reach.
...
Almost.

I am not sure what this is for yet it can mean many things such as lost loved or a child trying to prove themselves or a trying to succeed in life either way I liked it

I enjoyed it. ....................
( I had to put that to lengthen it.)

I'm not entirely sure what this poem is supposed to mean, but I'm going to share what it meant to me. When I read this, I envisioned two people. One person was walking normally. The other was extending a hand, grasping for the other, like that was his only love that he had finally gotten close to but just couldn't reach.
Some poems or stories I read leave me with a snapshot of a scene that typically has a deeper meaning. That one meant, to me, that the one person was carrying on with their everyday life, but the other was trying to be noticed. Maybe they were strangers, maybe they were friends. One fell in love, the other had no idea, or their feelings were untouchable.
Like I said, I don't know what this meant to you, but it had great meaning to me. And for that, I thank you.

So glad you found a personal meaning! That is what I hope for with some of my poems.
