A Poem Unheard

A Poem Unheard

A Poem by Rik Kirtaniya

I am a horse without a rider,

A throne without a queen,

A vase without a flower,

A painting that's unseen.

I am a field with no greenery,

A brook that has dried up long,

A ring of gold and ruby

But with no finger to put it on.

I am a leafless branch in autumn

Where the nightingale does not sing,

A lone abandoned watchtower

Where the bell no longer rings.

I am a comfy pair of shoes

But with no feet to keep warm,

A temple without its Goddess,

A house that isn't a home.

I am an empty hearthside in winter

Where the flames wither in silent gloom,

As desolate as the starless sky

On the night of the new moon.

I am a tune with no melody,

An ornate harp without a bard,

An existence without a purpose,

A poem unheard.
