The Name On The StoneA Poem by Rijuta Ghoshpoem about misinterpretation. narrator thinks her mom is alive but feels her dead when she visits a graveyard yet finds her mom back home and then realising it a part of her mind feels afraid to wake.Lonely I sat, Under the Blue moon… Strange, eerie sound encircling…. The cold, heavy, perfumed air, Above my head.
A monster buzzing… No!! wait, a fly. I thought I heard wolves howling Why I sat I didn’t know? For whom I sat I didn’t know?
River’s black water flowing Swiftly yet strangely. I don’t know what I did?
I saw shadows, silhouites Of whom I don’t know Rather,I never wanted to know.
I sat upon an ancient Stone With numbers engraved in it Some names written on it.
I don’t want to read.
I saw a beautiful maiden come out of the river. She had soothing eyes, Comforting words, pleasant smell and Strangely everything I knew.
My dad said her wife was the most beautiful woman. And I believed him more than anything.
My mom is an important part of our life. I shouted,”I don’t want to read” Yet, I saw my mother’s name Although I thought I knew she was home.
I came back home. Perplexed. I asked my mom why was her name seen by me? Why was her presence felt by me?
She smiled like an angel. Kissed me Good night.
I prayed that night. “Don’t make me realize it’s a dream”. Rijuta © 2013 Rijuta Ghosh |
