Chapter 1A Chapter by Sweet DemonessChapter 1 “Yo Eris, there you are!” Hearing her name being called by an all too familiar voice, amber colored eyes open in slight irritation for her relaxing being interrupted. Short razor cut brown hair framed a pale, smooth face. Sighing, the seventeen year old sat up on the shady grass and glared at her friend. “What is it Chase?” Eris questioned as the lanky nineteen year old male jogged up to where she was resting, his dirty blond hair plastered to his forehead thanks to the sweat running down his face. A camouflage army strong t-shirt with khaki cargo shorts sticking to his body caused her to scrunch up her nose. Panting in relief once he was underneath the shade of the tree, Chase sat down next to his childhood friend, ignoring her questioning glance in favor of pulling a crumbled brochure out of one of his side pockets. “Found this in our mailbox, read it,” he demanded, not letting Eris deny the request and pushed the booklet into her bony hands. The cover of the brochure was a simple light blue with gold colored writing in fancy cursive. “Camp Hero: Where you train your
abilities to make yourself the greatest hero. Why, exactly, did you give me this Chase?” Eris questioned, her shoulders tensing in
aggravation.
Chase held up his hand, cutting off
whatever she and gestured to the paper. Snarling at him, Eris resumed glaring
at the paper before sighing and opening it up. Camp Hero is a located on an island near Florida and is solely used to help young people control and figure out the uses of their abilities. Most are destined to be one of the greats- “I’m not interested,” Eris growled,
crumbling up the brochure before stuffing it in her pocket. “How are you not ‘interested’? It’s
a deal of a life time!” Chase retorted getting a huff in response so he
continued. “Eris please, you’ve known since you were seven and still refuse to
take sides between good and evil. If I had the chance, I would have chosen a
side long ago! But I don’t, I’m completely normal; you on the other hand have
amazing power that you ignore.” “Yeah I have powers that I don’t even know how I got them! Most mutants know where they got their abilities, but I’ve been left out in the dark. Besides what’s the point in having my abilities when all they do is harm people? I mean I can barely control elements, drain any living things life if I’m not careful enough, I have a f*****g Hell-hound as a pet and if I’m not wary I could draw suspicion to myself. So yeah, I’m sorry if I’m not hopping on the hero/villain bandwagon so soon because I’m a freak to both! Besides, what’s the point of me going to go get training when I can just ignore my powers and stay here with you while you do college here?” Silence enveloped the two before Chase sighed and put an arm around Eris, pulling her close. “About that, the reason I think you should go is because… I’m going to be leaving Austin to go do college elsewhere in a week.” Eris turned her head to him, disbelief written on her face. “What do you mean? You said that you’d do college here in Austin so that I could keep living with you.” Sighing Chase bowed his head momentarily before replying, “My mom and dad want me to go do school in Washington so I’ll be closer to them. The apartment is officially up for sell in a week and before you ask no, Zac is leaving too so you can’t stay with him. I’m sorry E.” Eris bit her lip, trying to calm herself down but couldn’t help but notice everything around was starting to turn ashy, at least everything but Chase. Breathing deeply, Eris counted to ten before releasing her breath and asking through clenched teeth, “What am I suppose to do about my mom? I can’t live on my own and I refuse to leave her here in that hospital alone to die.” Chase was silent before a small grin spread over his face. “Ask your mom if you should take this opportunity, see what she says then make your decision. I can always try to hold off selling our apartment for another week or talk to the landlord to see if he can postpone selling the apartment.” Eris looked at him, considering the idea before nodding her head. “I’ll do that, in the mean time go away. You ruined my relaxing peasant!” she said rudely, winking to show she was kidding. “Of course your majesty, forgive me your highness!” Chase laughed before getting up. “Although everyone else here at the Capital isn’t bothering you, they should leave too, right?” “Damn straight.” Eris giggled, before watching Chase walk away. Lying back down, the brochure flashed through her mind before pulling it out of one of her cargo Capri pockets. “Camp Hero, maybe it would be good if I went…” © 2012 Sweet DemonessAuthor's Note
