Fighting Love

Fighting Love

"
When I was younger
I was unable to
To navigate
All of the hate
Which translates
That I was in no
Position to reciprocate
And would retaliate
And wage war against
Anyone who tried
To love me and scale
My walls
All in an effort to
Have my defenses
Fall
Accumulated a lot
Of casualties
As being loved
Or giving love
Was never a priority
So reciprocity
Was strange and foreign
Whose origin I could
Only trace back to
Self-hate and loathing
That just took over me
Years of tears and fears
Haven’t disappeared
I be dam(n)
Here I am as the
Waters won’t recede
Because I have reenforced
The levees in me
Because the need to bleed
Is indeed not a farce
Yet, no fire no spark
Where do I start?
Maybe a transplant
For my heart?
A pacemaker?
A defibrillator?
Will that keep me
From falling apart?
And because I am
A hart, my heart
Is a target
Because it is
Gentle and kind
As
Random strangers
Commit crimes
Against my souls
The bullet holes
Are plenty, therefore
I have to do what
I can to protect me
See,
There is no safety net
In the city or country
Love is hunting me
Now the hunter is
The hunted
There will be more
Bloodshed
Until we are both
Dead?
Until then
The sea in me
Will remain red
As I pledge to
Keep on fighting love

A very honest write. What youngsters can navigate hate? I felt the walls being built higher and higher here. Difficult for them to be broken down and to learn to trust later in life. Some can do it, some can’t. I sense an ongoing struggle fighting love. I enjoyed your words and how they were conveyed. Thank you. Have a good day.

It is a battle we often lose and seldom win in little victories. Love is just life in evolution. The further we push it away the closer it gets. And the closer it is the more distant it becomes. Love is the choice both good and bad we make in its pursuit and resistance. A good poem that speaks to its turmoil within us.
