When I was 9A Poem by Jerome F Knox III pseudonym Nefarious J. DorseyPolitical and Socially Conscious Free Verse PoetryWhen I was 9 I was introduced
To some relatives of mine Who walked the picket lines To align themselves with other Sisters and Brothers who were Liked minded not blinded nor Absent minded as they couldn't Be dissuaded from not seeing this Through because they knew that This was something that had to do Equality had to fight Against his distant Cousin, who wasn't Backing down He had to lay the Smackdown WWE It was Equality vs Inequality Justice vs Injustice Vs "Just Us" As the substance of things Things hoped for could not Be ignored in this war As the need to have mustard Seeds is needed In order for things to improve The mountain of Injustice Needs to move and Forever be removed As faith tried to unlock Numerous doors As resistance wrestled With nonresistance Who was insistent That the fight For Civil Rights and Equality Could only be achieved Non-violently Something he still believes In although his beliefs Causes him so much grief He still bleeds for the cause As respect couldn't collect Any respect because His brother kept disrespecting Him Grabbing him by the neck Placing him in a chokehold That kept him in check So now I have been told That you will Find this kind of action To unfold On the picket lines As it remains a crime To be a minority In this country It's the Haves vs the Have Nots The KKK vs the NAACP Can you now see this clearly? As it appears to be Republicans vs Dems Us vs Them Blacks vs Whites Insurrection vs Civil Rights 0100310002021© Nefarious J. Dorsey © 2021 Jerome F Knox III pseudonym Nefarious J. Dorsey |
