Ricoism

  

you flood me with praise

when I write about trees

or rivers, mountains and

the seas

but when I raise my fist

and yell that we need this

a revolution

your solution

is to shun me with silence

when I speak about

and against the violence

again you shun me with what?

Silence

when I say war no more

Cause the reasons

in my mind I find

are unclear

I find myself standing

here

alone

facing my worst fears

therefore I try my

best when I protest

that the

truth as i know it

beats all alone

in my chest

 

and when I perform

on stage and talk

about the men in uniform

they snap their fingers

at me

as a sign of unity

at least some one understands

the plight of this

black man

and others like me all

across this land

 

when I speak out about

how they love baseball

in Cincinnati

they don't shun me

cause in this game

there is no umpire

to stop the pain

and Louie-ville sluggers

are replaced with batons

as the beatings go

on and on

long after the crowd is gone

so in case you didn't know

the video

is still playing

I can only imagine

what they are saying

or what you are saying

 

and when a fellow poet Mali

words speak directly to me

and he says

that they are still counting

votes in Florida

and I agree

people start to run far away

from me and my poetry

when I say that perhaps

if there were no Republicans or

Democrats

we could interact and

accept each other on

our own terms

but

you know

and I know

as human being

we still have a lot

to learn

we still have lot

to learn

WE STILL HAVE A LOT TO LEARN!!!!!!!!!
