If the world was
Perfect and bright
Than I would have
Nothing to write
If racism ended
The sad reality there
Would be no more
Fire in my poetry
I could not imagine
Anything else to
Ignite my passion
My past would truly
Be a thing of the past
As the pain would
Shoot pass
And I would forced
To admit this s**t
That troubles don't last
A banshees less condition
Nevertheless is more or less
More frightening
Than the enlightening
Prospect of peace
And tranquility
That makes me uneasy
Therefore I need
To ignore and close
The door on this metaphor
Cause I am unsure
If a Utopian society
Would be the
The write place for me
I rather be
Barking up trees and
Talking about their
Limbs and how he
Hung
Him and them
Weeping Willows
Partnered with
Jim Crow
Lynching millions
Of Kneegrows
So
I know that Weeping
Willows didn't weep for
Any of the Kneegrows
That hung and swung
And became victims and
Human pendulums
It would be scary
If the N word
Was taken out
The dictionary
And out of people's
Vocabulary
The results would vary
In degrees
In a Utopian society?
Cause ignorance
In humanity
Gives the fire in
My poetry
If that was to stop
I would have to
Cut my dreadlocks
And the music would
End
The turntables
Wouldn't spin
No more Hip Hop
No more dreadlocks
What would happen
To me
In a Utopian society?
Eye guess that eye
Would die?
I keep faith that one day we will reach a utopian society.
That all discrimination and biased opinion cease to be.
All negatives gone, never to return.
The horrors of humanity, buried in the past, never brought to light again.
Sickness of the soul, finally finding bliss.
Yet, surprisingly, these things fuel us as writers.
This is why I like your work.
You get "it".

You have included some stark images in this piece about what we need a poets in order to continue what we do. And, in a world where most of us hope and pray for utopia you depend on its nemesis. Well written!

I have been writing since I was 9. I specialize in freeverse poetry and have cut my teeth on Political and Socially Conscious subject matters. My poetry is not for everyone but anyone who hungers and .. more..
