In The Stadium of LifeA Poem by Jerome F Knox III pseudonym Nefarious J. DorseyIn the stadium of life I sit Watching the vendors Go up and down The aisles Selling their wares To the highest bidder Or anyone that is willing To pay the price No haggling or bargaining In here cause What you see is what you Get and That includes regrets? Yet despite the rules and The distractions That may come When it is all said and Done It doesn’t matter Who is on 1st 2nd or 3rd It doesn’t matter How many Fly balls Pop ups Attempted bunts Every play is subject To interpretation As instant replay Changes the situation And the judgment calls That umpires make On the fly Everyone including The players In the outfield Feels that Getting to Home plate Is worth the sacrifice Libations dilute the Situation As the fans in the Stands try to understand As intoxication Makes the truth Flow like beer From the tap Perhaps making The lies and the alibis Harder to follow As self-realization Is harder to swallow Than the pitcher’s Curve ball Fast ball Sinker Or slider As the signals from The catcher And the dug out Changes the game Although it appears To be the same The players change And so does the teams But they all share the Same dreams and nightmare Because everyone knows that The game of life isn’t Fair So when the call Goes out play ball Don’t pitch a fit About the first pitch In fact when you are At bat Try for an RBI But if you ground out Or forced into a double Play Listen to me when I say Such is the game of life © 2015 Jerome F Knox III pseudonym Nefarious J.
