Few Remember

Few Remember

A Poem by Jerome F Knox III pseudonym Nefarious J. Dorsey

I reached up from my

Coffin to feel the dew

On the blades of grass

That surrounded my grave

I saw the frost

had chrysalides

My tombstone

Hidding my name

My shame

My beginning

My ending

in a cocoon

A butterfly or moth

No more

I look around

To see what newbies

Could be found

Resting with me

In the ground

A dishonorable

Discharged vet

Missed the parade

To Arlington

A half folded

Torn trinket

Reminders

Of his failure

And defeat

For a country

That he pretended

To love

Over the hill

Malcolm

Martin

Rosa

Sat still

As they gazed

Upon Trayvon

Malice Green

Blood screaming

From the ground

As justice made no

Sound

Never to apologize

For taking their lives

Closer to home

Several unmarked

Graves sit alone

Legal executions

Sat the tone

It was time for them

To pay for their crimes

So the victim's families

Could have piece of mind

Unjust laws never saw

Him breaking her jaw

Or bashing her head in

Cause in the end

They knew he would

Send her to an early grave

Never admitting a mistake

Was made

Now the newbies can rest in the ground

Cause I have made my rounds

Now it is time I go back to

My nocturnal slumber

As I close my eyes and wonder

Whose number is next

As few remember while many

Forget

This was pretty moving. There will always be times when justice and fairness are but figments of the imagination; mere shadows of what should be. You've portrayed someone able to look around only to find business as usual on planet earth. Between the lines, it begs the question, did immortalized names die in vain? Life is not fair and many have died throughout history with that question in mindno matter what their color or creed. This is a fine poem and written with a skilled hand.
