If The Applause Never Comes

If The Applause Never Comes

The preacher has been trying to reach
Me for years
He said God can wipe all of
My tears
And if I let him
He can also ease all of my fears
So now I am standing here struggling
The situation I am facing is troubling
Broke as a joke, yet he says that I am
Rich in other areas of my life
You have two kids and a wife
And yes, you have your health
So see,
Wealth can be measured differently

So If the applause never comes
Then I am ok with the fact that
This act may be over
And that there will be
No encore and
Rico will be no more?

So now I am standing on
This empty stage
Trying to contain this rage
Looking out to the crowd,
Trying to see their reaction
Lights, camera, action

Give or take there will be some
Heartaches but in the end my friend
The role in life you choose
Sometimes you may win other times
You may lose

So If the applause never comes
Then I am ok with the fact that
The act may be over and
That there will be
No encore and
Rico will be no more?

See,
This soliloquy was about my struggles
My pain and my troubles
Then again that may be the reason
That my show has come to an end
Maybe I needed to understand
That the issue at hand
Is not all about me?
See,
There is a supporting cast
That can help me put this pain
In the past
And turn this tragedy
Into a comedy

So if the applause never comes
And this chapter of my life
Is done then
I am okay with that fact
As I promise not to look back
On this chapter, scene or verse
No more time needed to rehearse
No more lines to memorize
Or perfect, there is nothing
Else to change, rearrange or correct
No more scripts, this is it

i like the whole soliloquy idea in this...and you carry it to the end.
it is hard to think positively when we are struggling to make ends meet, all the time....
i know this all too well...
but i also see the other side, as in A Wonderful Life

with the wealth of friends George Bailey had, he was the richest man in town.
so there is something to be said for that... so we almost have to smile, even in the worst parts of the play.
